Bet You Didn't Know About Trinity House

Trinity House exemplifies what it means to be a good person and not only believes but practices the art of "Breaking Bread" with all of mankind.

Trinity House is an organization of Catholic Workers that help those in need and tries to stop war and nuclear testing. Here is a brief list of the work they do. It includes but is not limited to providing free housing for two guests, free healthy groceries, free vegetarian meals, free showers and laundry, and nuclear abolition and ending institutional violence.

The History Of Catholic Workers

The Catholic Worker movement was started by Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day in 1933, with the publication of their newspaper called, The Catholic Worker. Individuals practicing the radical Works of Mercy in this movement can also be called "Radical Christians". The word "radical" means "root", and people who focus on following the original source of Christ can be called Christian Radicals. At Trinity House they try to form a strong foundation for this intentional community. (Found in Trinity House Brochure)

What It Is Today

This organization has grown into a very compelling, endearing, and hard working group. Wednesdays through Saturdays they have what's called "Hospitality Days" in which people can come by from 9am to 1pm for food, showers, to have laundry done, and for moral support for absolutely free. They believe in the principal of Breaking Bread with your fellow man and they do not discriminate against anyone in need. Mondays and Tuesdays are days for introspection, cleaning, and running errands. They do not have Hospitality Days Sunday through Tuesday. Sundays are days for going out into the streets to feed the homeless and for prayer and worship, if that is what you want to do.

Making a Difference One Step at a Time

This group really tries to show, that by helping your community, little differences can be made in the world. Some may say that it is not enough to make a real difference. While others believe that even a single grain of rice can tip the scale in any battle. Here at Trinity House, they definitely portray the latter. Even if no one shows up Wednesday through Saturday, they are there waiting to help someone out. A more endearing cause could not be found anywhere else.

Eco-Friendly to Boot

On top of everything else they have done, they are an eco-friendly group as well. They use vegetable oil and diesel to fuel their vehicles, they ride bikes almost everywhere when they can, they grow their own vegetables and fruits, they utilize a compost pile, and they don't overuse lights or water. The lack of hypocrisy found here is as refreshing as it is motivating. Oh, and did I mention they live a life of voluntary poverty? The Catholic Workers live a life of poverty and servitude because they believe in what they are doing and want to lead by example. How can anyone not find them good-hearted and pure? Their intentions are strong and true.

The Respect Factor

Though you can find out more about Catholic Workers on the internet, I will not give out the website address out of respect for Trinity House. They try not to use technology as much as possible and feel it would encourage such use for others if they gave me the address. Wanting to respect their wishes and feelings, this writer acquiesced and did not force the issue.
